Technology

The technology department supports the school district by planning for and implementing various technology tools and support systems. Additionally, the department monitors, maintains and repairs existing equipment and software.

Our district has a long-standing commitment to acquiring and using quality instructional software. All software is previewed before purchase to assure curriculum fit and developmental appropriateness. If selected, a complete list of approved software is kept on file with the Director of Technology.

The Internet is used for a variety of learning needs. Students and their parents are asked to review the Acceptable Use Agreement which serves as an educational tool to help students learn to use the Internet wisely, while making them aware of possible dangers in using this powerful tool. Students are taught to use the Internet and other electronic information tools by teacher-librarians and teachers as a part of the district's Information Literacy Curriculum which emphasizes evaluation and appropriate use of sources.

The use of technology for learning and teaching is evident in our schools. A commitment to integrating technology into curriculum has resulted in wide-spread use of computers and other equipment to enrich the instructional process. Technology is regarded as a tool for learning.

The district has a wide-area network, which connects all schools to each other and each classroom to the Internet. Computer labs in elementary and secondary buildings provide access for large-group instruction, while classroom computers serve as tools for teachers for the presentation of information and for students doing project work.
